MacBook Air

Power. It’s in the Air.
Our thinnest, lightest notebook, completely transformed by the Apple M1 chip. CPU speeds up to 3.5x faster. GPU speeds up to 5x faster. Our most advanced Neural Engine for up to 9x faster machine learning. The longest battery life ever in a MacBook Air. And a silent, fanless design. This much power has never been this ready to go.

Small chip. Giant leap.
It’s here. Our first chip designed specifically for Mac. Packed with an astonishing 16 billion transistors, the Apple M1 system on a chip (SoC) integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and so much more onto a single tiny chip. With incredible performance, custom technologies, and industry-leading power efficiency, M1 is not just a next step for Mac – it’s another level entirely.

8-core CPU Devours tasks. Sips battery.
M1 has the fastest CPU we’ve ever made. With that kind of processing speed, MacBook Air can take on new extraordinarily intensive tasks like professional-quality editing and action-packed gaming. But the 8-core CPU on M1 isn’t just up to 3.5x faster than the previous generation – it balances high-performance cores with efficiency cores that can still crush everyday jobs while using just a tenth of the power.

All-day battery life
Up to 18 hours of battery life. That’s 6 more hours, free of charge.

Thermal efficiency
• No fan.
• No noise.
• Just Air.

Machine learning
Up to 9x faster. Even for a 16-core Neural Engine, that’s a lot to process. Apps on MacBook Air can use machine learning (ML) to automatically retouch photos like a pro, make smart tools such as magic wands and audio filters more accurate at auto-detection, and so much more. That’s not just brain power – that’s the power of a full stack of ML technologies.

macOS Big Sur

The power of macOS Big Sur on M1.
Developed to unlock the potential of the M1 chip, macOS Big Sur transforms Mac with major performance benefits and so much more. Powerful updates for apps. A beautiful new design. Industry-leading privacy features and best-in-class security. It’s our most powerful software ever – running on our most advanced hardware yet.

Speed and responsiveness
The M1 chip and macOS Big Sur work together to make the entire system snappier. MacBook Air wakes instantly from sleep. Everyday tasks from flipping through photos to browsing Safari are faster. And your hardest-working apps all have access to the power they need.

• More power. Wakes instantly.

Biggest collection of apps ever
Run powerful apps built for M1. All your existing apps work thanks to Rosetta 2. And for the first time, you can use your favorite iPhone and iPad apps directly on macOS Big Sur. Altogether you’ll have access to the biggest collection of apps ever for Mac.

Unified memory
The do-it-all notebook gets do-the-unbelievable memory. The M1 chip brings superfast unified memory. This single pool of high-bandwidth, low-latency memory allows apps to share data between the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine efficiently – so everything you do is fast and fluid.

MacBook Air can keep a secret.

Retina display

Lifelike colors for unreal beauty.
Images take on new levels of detail and realism on the brilliant 13.3-inch, 2560-by-1600-resolution Retina display. Text is sharp and clear. Colors are more vibrant than ever. And the glass goes right to the edge of the enclosure, so nothing takes away from your gorgeous view.

P3 wide color gamut
A wider palette of colors on display.

• 25% more colors than sRGB

Pixel density
Razor sharp text clarity.

True Tone technology
Good looking. And easy on the eyes. MacBook Air automatically adjusts the white point of your display to the color temperature of your environment for a more natural viewing experience.

Camera and mics

You’re live on the Air.
The image signal processor in the M1 chip helps you look your best for every FaceTime call and video conference. Three built-in microphones make sure what you say gets heard whether you’re on a call, dictating a note, or asking Siri about the weather.

FaceTime HD camera
Get clearer, sharper images. See more detail in shadows and highlights. And face detection uses the Neural Engine to adjust white balance and exposure for even more natural-looking skin tones.

Three-microphone array
Say “Hello” to mics that focus on your voice instead of what’s going on around you.

Magic Keyboard

Go ahead. Take the keys.
When a keyboard types like a dream and still does a whole lot more: that’s magic. With new preprogrammed shortcuts, useful features are even easier to access. Get help from Siri, switch keyboard languages, respond with the perfect emoji, find documents with Spotlight – there’s so much you can do with just a tap. And the backlit keys with ambient light sensor help you type in low-light settings.

Scissor mechanism
The refined scissor mechanism delivers the best typing experience ever on a Mac notebook.

Force Touch trackpad
Precise control with plenty of room to swipe, pinch, or zoom.

Touch ID
One touch is all it takes to lock or unlock MacBook Air. Use your fingerprint to rent a movie, buy an app, or access things like secure documents or system settings without having to reenter your password. And when you shop online with Apple Pay, Touch ID fills in your shipping and billing information without sharing your card details.

• Use Apple Pay
• Open password-protected documents
• Make purchases on the Apple TV app

Connectivity Charges, chats, streams, works, and plays well with others.

Wi-Fi 6
The next generation of Wi-Fi isn’t just faster – it keeps MacBook Air going strong even as more and more devices join the network.

• Wi-Fi 6 Up to 1.2Gb/s throughput

Thunderbolt / USB 4
Ultra-high bandwidth meets ultra-versatility. Thunderbolt enables data transfer, charging, and video output all through a single port – and MacBook Air has two of them.

Out of the box unusable for me. This MacBook Pro does not have any USB ports to be able to restore from a previous Mac back up that’s on an external drive. You must buy an adapter. Since I live in a remote area I’d have to order online and wait. You cannot even plug a iPhone12 Pro Max directly into it. The only ports it has are thunderbolt. So even Apple’s own lighting connector needs an adapter. The keyboard is a downgrade from the old keyboard. Solid black plastic instead of plastic keys surrounded by aluminum which were easier to see. Had to call Apple support to download an update because there is no reset option in the System Preferences of OS Monterey. And the update did not work to give it that option. Will have to figure out a different option to remove my account and information to return it. This particular MacBook is defective I believe.

Here are the temperature results for the new cool MacBooks compared to the old overheating intel ones. 91 degrees for the old one near the processor, and 74 degrees on the new ones. Both had been running for hours transferring files nonstop. Amazing. I have been editing video, transferring large files and not once have the fans kicked on. Makes me want to cry.

I was a bit concerned about the fact that Apple has moved away from Intel and is now producing their own M1 processor but I have to say it is incredibly fast. My company provides me with my computer of choice for work and in 2020 I received a top of the line MacBook Pro with an Intel 8 core i9 processor and 64GB of memory and 4TB SSD that retailed for close to $5,000 and I have to say this new MacBook pro with the 10 core M1, 16 core GPU, 1TB SSD and only 16GB of memory at almost half that price seems much faster. The display is just stunning. The graphics quality is among the best I've seen and video performance is flawless. it's everything a MacBook pro should be. High performance in a sleek aluminum case. A couple of things to note if you are not familiar with this computer and thinking of buying one. It only comes with 3 USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 interfaces. So you are going to need adapters if you plan on using any wired peripheral devices like keyboard, mouse, external drives etc.. that have standard USB interfaces. And at a minimum you should be backing your system up to an external drive. So, I’d recommend buying a USB-C to USB hub as I'm not big on adapters. There's several here on Amazon in the $20-30 range. Also, like most other manufacturers, Apple has dropped the DVD/CD. It's not even an option. If burning DVDs and CDs is still a thing for you, again you can connect an external device with a hub or adapter. I'd also recommend buying a cooling tray, especially if you are going to leave this computer on a desk powered up perpetually or for long periods of time so you can protect the CPU and more importantly the GPU from heat. Lastly, a few words on MacOS Montery that shipped with this computer. The most recent OS I was using was Sierra on my MBP 2013 and the learning curve was not difficult at all. My only complaint is Monterey turns on a lot of stuff I don't need or even want. For example, as soon as I signed in with my Apple ID to sync my music from iCloud, I started getting texts, Facetime and even phone calls for my entire family on my computer. We use the same Apple ID for all our devices for a number of reasons and while it wasn't too difficult to disable, I'd rather Apple leave that up to the user. I'll post an update more geared toward the performance and reliability of this system as time goes by but for now, I have to say I'm very pleased and would highly recommend this new MacBook Pro. One final comment on the purchase process. I actually ordered one directly from Apple. I live about 60 miles from an Apple store and wanted it shipped to me. I was given a projected ship date about 3 weeks after placing my order. After waiting almost the full 3 weeks, my order was still processing and hadn't moved toward the preparing to ship status. I then realized Apple has a store here on Amazon, they had exactly what I wanted in stock. So after canceling my order with Apple, I bought my computer here on Amazon and it arrived in 2 days.

I ordered the 2021 16 inch right away as I knew they would probably sell out fast. I had to make sure I had one for my trip I am leaving on soon. As soon as I opened it the screen would never come on. Thought maybe it needed charging so I tried that. Still nothing but a black screen. It kept making the sound when you open it up even when it was closed over and over again. I took it to the local Apple Store hoping I could get some answers. They tired to get it to work and could not either. They said it is very strange and maybe something happened to it during shipping. They said since it is brand new it would be best to get my money back from Amazon. I thought maybe I could just exchange it before my trip but the one I ordered is out of stock. I will try the 14 inch and see if I like it compared to the size of the 16 inch since it is in stock. This is a first MacBook Pro I have ever purchased and now I am a bit nervous.

This laptop is unbelievably fast. Between the screen, battery life, and performance, this laptop is head and shoulders better than any competition.

It needs to be about $1000 cheaper, especially if you don't get the pro max. It feels crazy to spend 3 grand on a laptop with no offboard 3d video card. However, once you get past the price, this is hands down the best laptop I've ever owned. It almost breaks the laws of physics we've gotten used to with portable devices. You can have battery life, or you can have speed, but you can't have both. Well you get both. This thing will happily do the most intensive rendering, gaming, whatever, on battery power and not bat an eyelash.I don't even recharge it daily or even bi daily. I charge it a few times a week....It's THAT good at running on battery. If you're not using it, it can go weeks in sleep mode and still wake up with lots of battery left. The display is amazing and there is little to no halo. If you took a photo of the screen and processed the image to make it brighter, sure you'd probably find a little blooming against black backgrounds, but in front of it, your eyes only see very bright highlights, and inky blacks. The sound is amazing. It isn't just a full sound, it's pretty flat and accurate sound considering it's a laptop. I often don't even reach for my headphones because there is nothing at all offensive about the built in speakers. It is a little chonky and on the heavy side compared to the Macbook Air I'm used to, but still very portable and a solid build.Gaming. It can do it. I don't know what gaming on Mac's is like with a Radeon card, but the apple silicon is more than capable of running games like Kerbal Space Program and Heroes of The Storm at 60+FPS and that is good enough for me.The on board storage is BLAZING fast, like >2000MB/s fast. If you have the space, this is a video editing power house between the fast on board storage, and ultra fast RAM speed.

Arrived DOA - wouldn’t start up. Spent hours on the phone with Apple support and still wouldn’t start. Returned - c’mon man!

I have been a pc user my entire life and took the plunge into the apple platform with this 16 MacBook Pro and it is simple bliss. The speed is mind blowing, the screen beautiful, I can not find anything bad to say. You should get a shell case to keep safe (as seen in photos) I got the base model and am happy as can be with it, I think if I had gotten the more spec out model my head may have exploded. I am now convinced that on judgement day that when god looks for my name in the big book he will do it on a MacBook Pro. :)
